Pitching eight innings, Pat Dobson ended a personal four-game losing streak and gained his first victory since July 16 when the Indians defeated the Rangers, 3-1. Dave LaRoche hurled the final frame. The Indians nicked Tommy Boggs for a run in the fourth inning on singles by Rick Manning, George Hendrick and Buddy Bell.

Frank Duffy doubled in the fifth, took third on a sacrifice and counted on an infield out by Tommy Smith. The Rangers picked up their run in the home half on an RBI single by Juan Beniquez, but the Indians clinched the verdict with a run on a sacrifice fly by Duane Kuiper in the ninth.
