A homer by Willie Stargell after a single by Richie Zisk in the first inning started the Pirates off to a 6-1 victory over the Dodgers, who were stopped on their six-game winning streak. The loss was only the second for Rick Rhoden against 11 wins. The Dodgers counted their run in the third when Ellie Rodriguez singled and was forced by Davey Lopes, who stole second and scored on a single by Bill Buckner.

The Pirates pulled away again with two runs in the fourth. Stargell and Dave Parker walked, but Stargell was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a single by Richie Hebner. Parker, taking third on the play, counted on a wild pitch. Mario Mendoza followed with a single to drive in Hebner. [The Sporting News]
