Terry Humphrey, the Angels' leading batter with an average of .311, rapped a run-scoring double with two out in the ninth inning to defeat the Red Sox, 6-5. Carlton Fisk hit a two-run homer for the Red Sox, while Tony Solaita supplied three runs for the Angels with a circuit clout.

In the ninth, Dave Collins led off with a single for his third hit of the game and was forced by Rusty Torres. After Dan Briggs struck out and Torres stole second, Solaita was passed intentionally in a move that failed when Humphrey delivered his decisive double. [The Sporting News]
