Tom Seaver, who had not been a winner since July 8, turned in his third shutout of the season and pitched the Mets to a 4-0 victory over the Giants. During his drouth, Seaver lost four times and had no-decisions in three other games, covering a stretch in which the Mets backed their star righthander with a total of only 12 runs.
