Pete Falcone extended his August winning streak to five games by pitching the Cardinals to a 4-1 victory over the Reds. The lefthander gave up the Reds' run in the first inning on walks to Pete Rose and Joe Morgan, a double steal and infield out by George Foster. The Cards went ahead to stay with two runs in the fourth on a homer by Willie Crawford, single by Keith Hernandez and triple by Don Kessinger. [The Sporting News]
