Appearing as the Royals' fifth pitcher, Tom Bruno gained credit for his first major league victory when Jim Wohlford singled in the 15th inning, scoring Bob Stinson, to beat the Red Sox, 7-6. Bruno worked the last two innings and permitted only one hit.

The Red Sox started with a homer by Rick Burleson in the first and added four runs in the second, but the Royals kept coming back and finally tied the score at 6-6 in the ninth when Cookie Rojas and Amos Otis singled and Hal McRae hit a homer. In the 15th, Stinson led off with a single, Dave Nelson sacrificed and Wohlford hit his game-winning single. [The Sporting News]
