Staked to a five-run lead in the first inning, Ken Kravec gained his first major league victory when the White Sox defeated the Brewers, 5-2. The rookie lefthander pitched 7 2/3 innings before being lifted in favor of Francisco Barrios. Dave Hamilton relieved in the ninth and struck out the last two batters to save the game.

In their first-inning outburst, the White Sox began the scoring with a single by Ralph Garr and double by Jorge Orta. Pat Kelly drove in the second run with a double and Jim Spencer added two more with a homer.
