A two-run homer by Reggie Smith in the first inning carried the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Mets in a duel between Tommy John and Tom Seaver. Davey Lopes singled ahead of Smith's blow. John, who went the distance for only the fourth time in 26 starts, gave up the Mets' run on singles by Leon Brown, Felix Millan and John Milner in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
