Frank Tanana turned in his 20th complete game of the season and was a winner for the 15th time, pitching the Angels to a 4-1 victory over the Tigers. The Angels scored all their runs in the third inning. Mario Guerrero singled, Andy Etchebarren doubled and Dave Collins drove them both home with another double.

Singles by Jerry Remy and Tommy Davis sent Collins across the plate. After a walk to Bill Melton, Tony Solaita hit a sacrifice fly. The Tigers averted a shutout in the ninth when Willie Horton singled to score Mickey Stanley. [The Sporting News]
