The Pirates took advantage of an error by Tito Fuentes in the fourth inning and scored four unearned runs to defeat the Padres, 4-1, for their sixth straight victory. With one out, Richie Zisk walked, stopped at second on a single by Bob Robertson and scored when Fuentes booted a grounder by Dave Parker.

After Bill Robinson was retired, Richie Hebner batted in a run with a double. Following a pass to Duffy Dyer, Bruce Kison clinched his own victory, driving in two runs with a single. [The Sporting News]
