Mike Torrez, who limited the Angels to two singles, pitched the Athletics to a 3-0 victory for his first shutout of the season. Rusty Torres collected both of the Angels' hits, while Claudell Washington accounted for all of the A's RBIs.

In the second inning, Sal Bando was hit by a pitch, Gene Tenace singled and, after two out, both scored on a single by Washington. The other run followed in the fourth.
