Randy Jones, the Padres' 20-game winner, was knocked out in the third inning after giving up five runs and was charged with a 7-3 loss to the Giants for his 11th defeat. The Giants rapped Jones for four runs in the first inning. Gary Thomasson opened with a single and Marty Perez doubled. Gary Matthews grounded out, Thomasson scoring. After Bobby Murcer singled, Ken Reitz smashed a three-run homer. Reitz also accounted for his fourth RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the third before Jones was lifted. [The Sporting News]
