The combination of three-hit pitching by Don Kirkwood and two RBIs by Tony Solalta carried the Angels to a 2-1 victory over the Royals, who went down to their eighth defeat in the last nine games. Solaita hit a sacrifice fly to plate the initial tally in the first inning.

The Royals scored on a walk to Fred Patek, a stolen base and single by Tom Poquette in the third. The Angels registered the deciding run in the sixth when Mike Easler singled, stole second and came home on a single by Solaita. [The Sporting News]
