Two run-scoring singles by Mike Easler, each driving in Jerry Remy, enabled the Angels to defeat the Royals, 2-0, behind the combined six-hit pitching of Gary Ross and Dick Drago. Ross was forced to leave the game in the third inning when hit on the right ankle a by line-drive single off the bat of George Brett.

In the sixth, Brett had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after being hit above the right eye by Dave Chalk's knee while sliding into second base in an attempt to break up a double play. Remy singled in first inning, stole second and scored on Easler's first hit. Another single by Remy, an infield out and single by Easler added the other run in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
