Jim Palmer became the league's first 20-game winner of the season by pitching the Orioles to a 3-1 victory over the Indians. In entering the charmed circle for the sixth time in the last seven years, Palmer gave up the Indians' lone run on a triple by John Lowenstein and sacrifice fly by Larvell Blanks in the first inning. The Orioles tied the score in their half of the first and went ahead on a run-scoring single by Al Bumbry in the fifth. Reggie Jackson clinched the verdict with a homer in the sixth.
