. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Rollie Fingers put down a threat in the eighth inning and picked up his 20th save as the Athletics edged the White Sox, 2-1. The A's, after scoring in the second on a double by Joe Rudi and single by Gene Tenace, added what proved to be the deciding tally in the third on a pass to Bill North, a balk and single by Don Baylor. Jorge Orta homered for the White Sox in the sixth.

Fingers, the A's fourth pitcher of the game, took over after Orta and Lamar Johnson singled and Chet Lemon sacrificed in the eighth. After issuing an intentional pass to Jack Brohamer, Fingers retired Bucky Dent on a pop fly and struck out Brian Downing. [The Sporting News]
