Pete Rose collected a single, double and triple, driving in two runs, to lead the Reds to a 4-1 victory over the Giants. Rose batted in the Reds' first run with his triple in the third inning and accounted for another RBI with his double in the fifth. The Reds added their other tallies in the ninth on a walk, double by Cesar Geronimo and single by pinch-hitter Mike Lum. Bob Knepper was the Giants' loser in his first major league start.
