. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Tigers built up a 6-0 lead and then got one-hit relief from John Hiller in the last three innings to hold off the Yankees, 6-5. Ron LeFlore, who had four hits in the game, led off the first inning with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Rusty Staub. Ben Oglivie homered with LeFlore on base in the third. The Tigers capped their scoring in the fourth with an RBI single by Oglivie and two-run single by Willie Horton.

Thurman Munson batted in two tuns for the Yankees with a single and homer, while Lou Piniella also accounted for two runs with a double. Munson's homer to lead off the seventh kayoed Tiger starter Dave Roberts and brought Hiller to the mound. [The Sporting News]
