Ray Burris pitched a five-hitter and came out the winner in a duel with Steve Rogers when the Cubs scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning to defeat the Expos, 2-0. Mick Kelleher led off the stanza with a single and Burris sacrificed. After Rick Monday struck out, Joe Wallis grounded to Earl Williams, who threw wildly to Rogers covering first, to allow Kelleher to score on the error.
