Pete Rose rapped four hits and Tony Perez added three to lead the Reds' attack in a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers. Pat Zachry, who was the winner with help from Rawly Eastwick, became the first pitcher to beat the Dodgers five times without a defeat in one season since Larry Jaster of the Cardinals accomplished the feat in 1968. Eastwick gained his 23rd save.

The Reds tore into Al Downing for three runs in the third inning on a single by Rose, double by Ken Griffey, single by Joe Morgan, sacrifice fly by George Foster and double by Perez.
