The Cardinals swept a doubleheader for the first time this season, beating the Mets in a twi-night affair, 7-0 and 4-1. John Denny posted the shutout on a four-hitter. Joe Ferguson hit the first grand-slam homer of his major league career and drove in a fifth run with a single. The catcher's jackpot wallop came off Mickey Lolich in the third inning after Denny beat out a bunt and both Garry Templeton and Keith Hernandez walked. Mike Anderson added a homer in the eighth.

John Curtis was the route-going winner in the nightcap. The Cards put the game away with three runs in the third inning on doubles by Templeton and Hernandez and singles by Hector Cruz and Don Kessinger. [The Sporting News]
