The crowd of 40,383 at "Salute to Hank Aaron Night" suffered two disappointments when Aaron not only went hitless in five trips, but the Brewers also lost to the Yankees, 5-3, in 11 innings. George Scott drove in the Brewers' runs, hitting a homer in the first inning and accounting for two RBIs with a single in the sixth.

Lou Piniella figured in the first three Yankee runs. After batting in one with a single in the first, Piniella tripled and scored on a single by Chris Chambliss in the fourth. Then in the ninth Piniella singled and gave way to pinch-runner Larry Murray, who subsequently counted the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Elliott Maddox. Graig Nettles smashed the deadlock in the 11th with his 27th homer of the season.
