. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Although playing only three innings before leaving the game with a groin injury, Carl Yastrzemski knocked in four runs with a homer and single to start the Red Sox off to a 5-4 victory over the Tigers. The veteran star homered with Rick Miller and Fred Lynn on base in the first inning and knocked in Steve Dillard with a single in the third. The Red Sox added what proved to be their deciding marker in the eighth when Lynn walked, Jim Rice singled and Cecil Cooper grounded into a fielder's choice. [The Sporting News]
