The Red Sox outmuscled the Tigers, 12-6, with Jim Rice hitting two home runs and Cecil Cooper and Dwight Evans one each. A seven-run uprising in the fourth inning featured Rice's first homer, a two-run double by Carlton Fisk and two-run single by Cooper.
