Wayne Garland, who won 19 games with Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) in 1971, equalled that total by pitching the Orioles to a 3-0 victory over the Red Sox. The Orioles scored all their runs in the second inning, starting with a homer by Ken Singleton. Tony Muser followed with a single, Doug DeCinces doubled and Mark Belanger batted them home with a two-bagger. The shutout was the fourth of the season for Garland, who became a regular starter in mid-June after serving almost exclusively as a reliever in 1974 and '75. [The Sporting News]
