In the opener, the Phillies broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the fifth inning on a double by Bobby Tolan, singles by Greg Luzinski and Dick Allen and a sacrifice fly by Mike Schmidt. Four more runs in the ninth iced the verdict.

In the nightcap, the Phillies posted their pair in the fourth inning, one run scoring on a single by Larry Bowa and the other on a triple by Jim Kaat. The Expos came back to knot the count in their half with a single by Bombo Rivera, a club-record 35th double by Tim Foli and singles by Ellis Valentine and Earl Williams.
