Jim Barr, who pitched his third shutout of the season and beat the Astros, 10-0, had to share honors with Gary Matthews, who became the first Giants' batter to hit three homers in one game since Willie McCovey accomplished the feat September 17, 1966. Matthews hit a two-run homer in the first inning, added a solo swat in the fourth and topped off his big day with a two-run blow in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
