Cecil Cooper, Jim Rice and Ernie Whitt batted in two runs apiece to support the pitching of Reggie Cleveland as the Red Sox defeated the Orioles, 8-3. Whitt accounted for his RBIs with a double in the fifth inning when the Red Sox scored three times. A five-run outburst in the eighth accounted for the winning margin.
