In a triumphant debut, the Blue Jays slugged their way to a 9-5 victory over the White Sox in an opening-day game that brought out a crowd of 44,649 to watch the expansion club inaugurate major league baseball in Toronto. Snow fell before the game and it was played in near-freezing weather.

Doug Ault led the Jays' 16-hit attack with two homers and a single, driving in four runs. Al Woods, coming up as a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning, homered on his first time at bat in the big league. Richie Zisk had four hits for the White Sox, including a homer. [The Sporting News]
