The Mariners, who were shut out in their first two games, broke that scoring drouth and gained their maiden victory by rallying for two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Angels, 7-6. Dan Meyer had the distinction of driving in the first run in Mariners' history with a double that scored Dave Collins in the fourth inning.

Bill Stein opened the ninth with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Carlos Lopez, who scored the tying run from first base when Bob Stinson hit his second double of the game. After Jose Baez was inserted on the paths for Stinson, the Angels passed Craig Reynolds intentionally. That brought up Larry Milbourne, who doubled to dirve in Baez with the winning run.
