A pinch-double by Joe Torre in the ninth inning scored Bruce Boisclair and Dave Kingman and lifted the Mets to an 8-6 victory over the Cubs. Kingman singled for one of the Mets' two runs in the first inning and both Kingman and Roy Staiger homered with a man on base in the third. However, the Mets were unable to hold the 6-0 lead.

After the Cubs rallied to tie the score, Felix Millan collected his fourth hit, a single, to open the ninth but was forced by Boisclair. Kingman singled for his third hit and Torre followed with his game-winning double. Bobby Murcer had a homer for the Cubs, his first in a Chicago uniform. [The Sporting News]
