An injury to Enrique Romo proved costly to the Mariners when the Twins fell on reliever Bill Laxton for two runs in the eighth inning and defeated the expansion club, 3-2. Romo was leading, 2-1, when the 30-year-old righthander from the Mexican League reinjured his hamstring muscle in pitching to Bob Randall, the Twins' first batter in the eighth. Laxton took the mound, walked Randall and then was beaten when the Twins scored twice on doubles by Craig Kusick and Lyman Bostock. [The Sporting News]
