An error by Bobby Grich on a relay from the outfield in the ninth inning enabled the Athletics to defeat the Angels, 8-7. Dick Allen, Mitchell Page and Rich McKinney hit homers for the surprising A's, who gained their sixth victory in seven games.

With the score tied in the ninth, Larry Lintz walked and moved up on a sacrifice by Matt Alexander. After a pass to Page, Allen hit a long fly to Bruce Bochte in center field. Lintz tagged up, advanced to third after the catch and continued home when Grich bobbled the throw from Bochte. [The Sporting News]
