Pinch-hitter Otto Velez came through with a three-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Blue Jays to a 5-3 victory over the Tigers. John Hiller, taking over in relief for Ray Bare, retired Jim Mason but then walked Doug Ault and Ron Fairly before Velez batted for Sam Ewing and hit his homer. The blow wiped out a 3-2 lead that the Tigers had achieved on round-trippers by John Wockenfuss and Ron LeFlore.
