Sparky Lyle failed in relief as the Brewers rallied for three runs in the ninth inning, including a homer by Cecil Cooper, to defeat the Yankees, 4-3. Jim Wohlford opened the stanza with a single off Ken Holtzman, who was lifted although the hit was only the fifth of his deliveries.

Lyle induced Robin Yount to force Wohlford, but Cooper came up and smashed his homer to tie the score at 3-3. Sal Bando followed with a triple and, after an intentional pass to Sixto Lezcano, Don Money struck out but Steve Brye singled for the winning run. [The Sporting News]
