The Pirates were meek victims of Eric Rasmussen for six innings before rising up to score two runs in the seventh and defeat the Cardinals, 3-1. Rasmussen had retired 12 straight batters going into the seventh when Dave Parker snapped his string with a single.

Parker then stole second and scored on a double by Bill Robinson. Rennie Stennett followed with a single to plate Robinson. Rich Gossage, who pitched the last three innings in relief of John Candelaria, added the Pirates' last run with a double in the ninth for his first major league hit. [The Sporting News]
