A two-run rally in the ninth inning, featuring a double by Jamie Quirk and triple by Gorman Thomas, enabled the Brewers to defeat the Athletics, 5-4. Cecil Cooper hit a homer and sacrifice fly as the Brewers took a 3-0 lead, but the A's went ahead in the eighth when Earl Williams and Rich McKinney each hit for the circuit with a man on base. After Quirk's double and Thomas' triple tied the score in the ninth, Steve Brye bounced to Wayne Gross, who threw home, but Thomas kicked the ball out of catcher Manny Sanguillen's mitt and scored the winning run.
