Rookie lefthander Jerry Garvin scattered eight hits and gained his third straight victory as the Blue Jays defeated the Yankees, 8-3. The Blue Jays scored four runs in the fourth inning and knocked out Gil Patterson, who was making his major league debut. Ex-Yankee Otto Velez singled a run home during the outburst and batted in another with a double in the sixth. The defeat was the fifth straight and eighth in 10 games for the Yankees.
