Using the same "out of the cap" lineup that had produced a 7-5 victory in the previous day's game, the Yankees outslugged the Blue Jays, 8-6. Chris Chambliss, batting eighth instead of his normal cleanup spot, drove in five runs with two doubles and a homer.

Graig Nettles also homered in the attack that enabled Ken Holtzman to post his first victory of the season. Ex-Yankee Otto Velez had three hits for the Blue Jays, including a two-run homer, giving him a total of nine hits in 15 at-bats and eight RBIs in the four-game series against his former club.
