Tom Seaver extended his scoreless pitching streak to 25 innings before being knocked out by the Pirates, who went on to edge the Mets, 4-3. Seaver, who had hurled two previous shutouts, collared the Pirates until the eighth when the Mets' ace gave up three runs on a single by Omar Moreno, a stolen base, single by Ed Ott and homer by Dave Parker.

Bob Myrick, on the Mets' mound in relief, gave up a single by Phil Garner to open the ninth before giving way to Skip Lockwood. Frank Taveras sacrificed. Lockwood walked Ed Kirkpatrick and then struck out Moreno, but Ott came through with a single to drive in the Pirates' winning run. [The Sporting News]
