An infield hit by Andre Dawson with two out and the bases loaded in the 10th inning scored Tony Perez and gave the Expos a 3-2 victory over the Giants. Willie McCovey forced the game into overtime by accounting for the Giants' runs with a homer in the ninth.

Ellis Valentine doubled in the Expos' 10th and Perez was passed intentionally. Larry Parrish forced Valentine at third. After Jose Morales grounded out, moving the runners along, the Giants passed Gary Carter to load the bases. Dawson followed with the winning hit on a slow roller to second baseman Rob Andrews, who was unable to make the play on an infield that had been made slick by two downpours during the game.
