. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After being bombed, 16-1, in the first game of a doubleheader, the Mariners came back to gain a split by defeating the Royals in the second game, 4-2. Al Cowens hit a three-run homer and Fred Patek drove in three runs with a double in the opener, while Hal McRae also accounted for three RBIs with four hits in five trips. The Mariners avoided a shutout with a homer by Craig Reynolds in the eighth inning.

Leroy Stanton singled in the first to open the scoring for the Mariners in the nightcap. After the Royals went ahead, 2-1, Stanton homered in the sixth. Bill Stein followed with a single and Joe Lis walked. After Ruppert Jones forced Stein, Reynolds and Jose Baez hit run-scoring singles to provide the Mariners with their winning margin.
