Hitting safely in his 17th straight game, Ron Cey rapped a homer and two singles and drove in his 26th and 27th runs of the month to pace the Dodgers to a 7-6 victory over the Padres. Cey's batting average boomed to .469. The Padres began the scoring with a two-run homer by Dave Winfield in the third inning, but Cey's circuit clout sparked a three-run outburst by the Dodgers in the fourth.

After the Dodgers increased their lead to 6-2, Cey drove in what proved to be the deciding run with a single in the eighth, enabling the Dodgers to withstand a four-run rally by the Padres in their half of the inning. George Hendrick accounted for two runs with a homer. [The Sporting News]
