A homer by Ellis Valentine with a man on base capped a three-run rally in the third inning as the Expos took advantage of an error by Dave Kingman to defeat the Mets, 3-2. Andre Dawson led off with a single and sped to third on a sacrifice bunt by Steve Rogers when the Mets left the bag uncovered. After Dave Cash was retired for the second out, Pepe Frias tapped to Jerry Koosman, but Kingman dropped the pitcher's throw to first, allowing Dawson to score.
