The Mariners, who collected 14 hits, wasted many of their scoring opportunties before edging the Twins, 4-3. The Twins were held to six hits by Frank MacCormack, who started for the Mariners, and John Montague, who pitched the last five innings and gained the decision.

The Mariners got their first run in the second on a triple by Bill Stein and single by Carlos Lopez. Jose Baez singled a pair across in the sixth and then singled again in the eighth, moved to second on an infield out by Larry Milbourne and scored the deciding run on a single by Steve Braun.
