Lenny Randle, obtained from the Rangers, who got rid of the second baseman because of his attack on manager Frank Lucchesi, made an outstanding debut as a starter with the Mets in an 8-2 victory over the Padres. Randle tripled in his first time at bat in the N. L. and collected two other hits in five trips and also stole home.
