The Braves' losing streak was extended to 10 games when pinch-hitter Ed Kirkpatrick lofted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 11th inning to provide the Pirates with an 8-7 victory. Dave Parker hit two homers for the Pirates, driving in three runs.

Jeff Burroughs had five RBIs for the Braves, including a two-run homer that tied the score at 7-7 in the seventh. In the 11th, Phil Garner singled.
