Tommy John scattered four hits and Dusty Baker belted his fourth homer of the season, matching the outfielder's entire 1976 total, as the Dodgers defeated the Mets, 3-1, for their 20th victory in 24 games. The Dodgers used their speed to produce the first two runs.

Davey Lopes beat out a bunt, stole second and scored on a single by Bill Russell. Then, on a hit-and-run play, Russell raced home from first base on a single by Reggie Smith.
