Breaking out of a 1-for-25 slump. Ron Cey smashed a grand-slam homer off Tom Seaver in the fifth inning to climax a seven-run explosion that propelled the Dodgers to a 7-2 victory over the Mets. Rick Monday doubled and Dusty Baker homered to ignite the Dodgers' outburst. Johnny Oates singled, stole second and scored on a single by Rick Rhoden.

Following a pass to Davey Lopes and infield out by Bill Russell, Seaver walked Reggie Smith intentionally to load the bases and had a count of 3-2 on Cey before the Dodgers' slugger unloaded.
