Backed by a pair of two-run homers, Fergie Jenkins was able to pitch the Red Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Mariners. Jenkins gave up the Mariners' runs in the first inning on a double by Steve Braun and homer by Dan Meyer, but the veteran righthander was invincible the rest of the way while racking up his fourth straight victory.

The Red Sox came back against Diego Segui in the sixth. Denny Doyle led off with a double and scored on a single by Carl Yastrzemski. George Scott followed with a homer for a 3-2 lead. Jim Rice added insurance with a homer in the eighth after Doyle was safe on an error. [The Sporting News]
